From Cusco to Juliaca
It has been more 389 km., resulting in 2,200 km. since we departed from Porto Velho. We have just left the 3,300 m. altitude in Cusco and got even higher, 500 m up more to Juliaca. Because we stopped for registering the road, the trip became longer, about seven hours. It has delayed, but it was not tiring.. Each kilometer brinbgs more surprises on the way. After going up the Andean mountain range finally we started a relatively plain stretch. Among some towns we found throughout the InterOcean , there are alpacas at the edge of the highway. The animals are free, but they have owners.
In one of the highway stretches we follow the train for some kilometers out of Cusco heading to Puno, where the tourists go in order to visit the Titicaca lake, Sacred lake of the Incas. The trip seems surprising, but it is necessary to spend U$ 150,00. The same trip by bus costs around U$ 15,00. Another point of the highway we could not fail to register is one of the snowy peaks. When we were close to the ice we had to stand a temperature which varied from 5 to 10 degrees centigrade below zero. The highway in good conditions costs a price. We had that to pay two tolls, about R$ 7, each one. In the arrival in Juliaca we were hosted by the Department of state and the Juliaca’s Commerce Chamber representatives, who introduced us to the city of Puno.
